Die Hard Trilogy review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 15 December 2007 05:14
(A review of Die Hard Trilogy)What a fantastic little time-waster. This game basically incorporated three different game modes to coincide with the three different Die Hard films. Die Hard was a 3rd person shooter in which you hosed down every terrorist on a floor of the nakatomi plaza before defusing a bomb and advancing to the next floor up. Die Hard 2 was a linear FPS game (and the best of the bunch!) which vaguely followed the events of the second film, while Die Hard with a Vengeance was an impossible crazy-taxiesque driving game in which you had to race around the city in search of bombs to defuse. I really enjoyed the Die Hard 2 game, and the plaza was entertaining too, with soundbytes from the film that have been immortalised in my vernacular ever since. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Gran Turismo 2 review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 15 December 2007 05:03
(A review of Gran Turismo 2)This game took its predecessor and breathed a whole lot of new life into it in the form of even better graphics, a whole load of new tracks and tonnes and tonnes of new cars. It was, for its faults, a great game that you could easily recommend to anyone, car enthusiast or not. There were several glitches in the initially released games that I can't really forgive Sony for, but these aside this is a much better game which improves upon a game that had absolutely nothing wrong with it. Another entertaining soundtrack and easier licences also make the game that bit more enjoyable. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 15 December 2007 04:54
(A review of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3)There was only one way for the Tony Hawks series to go after this game and that was downhill! The 2 minute run format was easily the best and most enjoyable format for the Tony Hawks games. Just prancing around getting high scores and completeing believable tasks in that short amount of time was much more rewarding than the complicated dull-fest that followed with later games in the series. The trick sets were plentiful but simple to perform and allowed for slick runs and high scores that you could be proud of. Throw in a bunch of great secret scaters and levels and you've got replayability. I might even dig this out and give it a run through in the near future. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
A....daaaaa!

(A review of Resident Evil 2)Ha, I remember asking my mum to go in and buy me this game, because I wasn't old enough to get past the certificate 15 age limit. I guess that made me 14 when I first gave it a run through. With utterly memorable characters and a compelling plotline, this game is completely ingrained into my past. I still see references and quotes that remind me of this gaming experience, such is the trend setting nature of this legendary survival horror game. If only they didn't make a bunch of awful films that only succeed in defaming the Resident Evil name. Memories of games like this actually matter to some people, stop bleeding them dry! Who can ever forget the first encounter with a licker, Ada, the huge crocodile in the sewers, the carnivorous foliage, combining herbs and the gruesome tyrant at the end of the game. Thoroughly entertaining with a fantastic soundtrack to boot. It scared the hell out of me, I remember shaking violently as I played towards the end. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Unreal Tournament 2004 review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 15 December 2007 04:33
(A review of Unreal Tournament 2004)People are still playing this FPS behemoth in their droves online, it's such a great all-round game to enjoy. The single player is pretty much the same as previous UT games, but the colours, levels, weapons and multiplayer modes have all been supercharged. It's such a simple game to play, you just roll around killing everything in sight while occassionally accomplishing your targets. The vehicles and expansive maps more than make up for the complete lack of team play you experience online. Some players are just so good at this game it's untrue, but I guess they have had a good 3 years to practice. This is proper fast-paced FPS action that never takes itself too seriously. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Gran Turismo review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 15 December 2007 04:27
(A review of Gran Turismo)As with most game series' I was late to the party with regard to the Grand Turismo games. As someone who doesn't exactly cite motorracing a huge interest, I'm not sure what encouraged me to buy this game. I'm glad I did as ever since I've been playing the series. It's amazing for a Playstation game. The only beef I have with the game is the licence method. Something that has haunted the series for generations! Just getting the A licence on its own was rock hard. After cheating my way to golds in all three licences though, I enjoyed this game for hours on end. The car trading and dealing part is great fun. The latter games have only really ever improved the graphics, which is testament to how well they made the original. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 14 December 2007 09:39
(A review of Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle)Thinking back, I never ever actually enjoyed playing this game. I just always went at it again to try and get further than I had done previously. I hated the Rock, Paper, Scissors game, the way you died instantly from the slightest touch of an enemy, the lack of feasible continues and so on. Despite this, I played it an awful lot. If I ever saw the game again I'd probably set it on fire. Not my favourite game by any means. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Metal Gear Solid review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 14 December 2007 07:30
(A review of Metal Gear Solid)Wow. Games this fantastic shouldn't have been possible on the PlayStation! Everyone should now about MGS by now. You play as the iconic super spy, Solid Snake, sent to infiltrate a military base overrun by super soldiers. You goal is to prevent the sinister militia from stealing and using the US Army's brand new tactical nuclear weapons - a huge walking bipedal capable of stealthed movement and nuclear strike. The gameplay from this game, like the rest of the series, is thrilling, rewarding and entertaining from beginning to end. Unlike the latter games, the plot is relatively straight forward, never too complicated and it doesn't insult your intelligence. This game is technically the birth of a great series. You will not tire of it, or fail to be amazed by all of the quirks, easter eggs and generally awesome and lifelike moments you experience in the game. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Red Faction review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 14 December 2007 07:17
(A review of Red Faction)I enjoyed Red Faction. Maybe it was because of my remote interest in mars and stories which originate from there. Not to mention the fact that it kind of reminded me of Total Recall. You play the part of a miner who, one day, decides that the brutal treatment of him and his colleagues at the hands of a faceless corporate private army is not good enough anymore. He rebels and his uprising soon takes him across the planet, where his coworkers are slowly starting to join the fight (and usually meeting grizzly ends as a result). Advertised the fact that the walls and surroundings were 100% destructible and interactive, but this really wasn't the case. Maybe two puzzles in the whole game require you to blow a hole in the wall with a rocket launcher, but after that your rockets pretty much bounce off of the martian architecture. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Tekken 5 review
Posted : 1 year, 11 months ago on 14 December 2007 07:05
(A review of Tekken 5)I honestly don't think that the Tekken series has been improving since Tekken Tag Tournament. With all of the new characters and new 'interactive' arenas, I found the combat to be slightly slower and not as fluid as it was in the past. Even Tekken 3 feels quicker than the latest Tekken games at times. Other than that, all the favourite characters are back and the girls' outfits are skimpier than ever. It's still entertaining but we demand more! 0 comments, Reply to this entry
